Black and White: Composition

Cee’s black and white challenge is hands, feet or paws.  Thus challenged I decided to see what I could glean from my street photography files.  I wanted to see if I could produce an engaging image with feet as the focus; not just a photo of feet, but a photo that might give pause to the viewer – a composition challenge.  Not so easy, a … Continue reading Black and White: Composition

Photo Editing: Layering for dummies

Stacy over at Visual Venturing hosts the After Before challenge and we all love her for it.  🙂 Though I have looked at Photoshop layering a number of times I have never been able to get any joy; I’ve never been able to figure it out.  HOWever, a fellow blogger pointed me towards Pixlr where even I have had some measure of success.  I don’t know … Continue reading Photo Editing: Layering for dummies

Photo Editing: Day in the Park

I let the week slip away and left it too late to submit to Stacy’s After Before Friday but thought I would put one up anyway. This is my original image, taken at Echo Dale near Medicine Hat, Alberta. The scene reminded me of Seurat’s painting… A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte I work in Sagelight and I always start with adjusting … Continue reading Photo Editing: Day in the Park

ABFriday: Changing the Mood

This was an experiment in changing the atmosphere of an image.  To create the low lying mist I inverted the image and then using the undo brush on varying levels of hardness and pressure I reverted it back to the original.   I think my technique needs more practice but I found the results interesting. Done in Sagelight. Hosted by Stacy at Visual Venturing Original … Continue reading ABFriday: Changing the Mood

ABFriday: Venice

Chiesa di San Salvatore in Venice Stacy sponsors ABFriday at Visual Venturing My original photo (below) was underexposed and overrun with tourists but the door to this church was magnificent.  I wanted to highlight it and play down the unavoidable people.  I cropped it, despite that wonderful lighting at the top of the door and then used paint to eliminate some of people.  I adjusted … Continue reading ABFriday: Venice

Photo Editing: One Photo Focus: The Porch

Stacy’s provides the photo and we give our interpretation. This is the original photo -obviously centre stage goes to the tree and vines but I found the chairs on the porch interesting – I love porches. So I cropped it down to some interesting lines –And I took it into Paint and made some changes – And then in Sagelight I aged it and added a median … Continue reading Photo Editing: One Photo Focus: The Porch

One Four Challenge March Week 4

One Four Challenge Week 4 This is my photo for this month.  Using Sagelight,  I’m going to try to have this image tell a different story each week. For this week’s image, I aged the photo, used the posterize feature and applied a filter.  Although this image is dark I don’t find it threatening as in week 1, probably because of the warm overtone to it.  And … Continue reading One Four Challenge March Week 4

One Four Challenge March Week 3

This is my photo for this month.  Using Sagelight,  I’m going to try to have this image tell a different story each week. Week 2 I tried for a nostalgic feel, lost in personal reverie where the rest of the world fades into muffled silence … This week with only one modification it speaks to me of a different story.  Of having traveled a difficult time, perhaps … Continue reading One Four Challenge March Week 3

One Four Challenge March Week 2

This is my photo for this month.  Using Sagelight,  I’m going to try to have this image tell a different story each week. Using the same crop as last week, I softened the architecture of the colonnade, used dodge and burn to remove the man at the end of the arches and adjusted the tones using Sagelights tone blender.   For me this image brings to … Continue reading One Four Challenge March Week 2

One Four Challenge March Week 1

This is my photo for this month.  Using Sagelight,  I’m going to try to have this image tell a different story each week. First up, I cropped the image.  I added soft focus and a vignette and played with the threshold.  Then I inverted the area at the end of the archway which makes it appear as if it’s night with a person caught in the … Continue reading One Four Challenge March Week 1

One Four Challenge Feb Week 4

This is the photo I am going to use this month.  Each week I’m going to begin with some sort of distortion of this photo and see if I can produce an interesting and pleasing artistic image. For week 4 I again began with a polar coordinates distortion which I compounded by repeating it several times until something I liked emerged. I quite liked this but continued … Continue reading One Four Challenge Feb Week 4

One Four Challenge Feb Week 3

This is the photo I am going to use this month. Each week I’m going to begin with some sort of distortion of this photo and see if I can produce an interesting and pleasing artistic image. For week three I began in Sagelight with a plug-in to smooth the image and then applied a median filter.  In PS Elements 8 I distorted it using polar … Continue reading One Four Challenge Feb Week 3
