As a young girl I spent many hours with a book called A Child’s Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. I still have the book, now 60 years old. My selection is” Where Go the Boats”. Click on any image for a larger view.
Dark brown is the river,
Golden is the sand.
It flows along forever,
With trees on either hand.
Green leaves a-floating,
Castles of the foam.
Boats of mine a-boating,
Where will all come home?
On goes the river,
and out past the mill.
Away down the valley,
Away down the hill.
Away down the river,
A hundred miles or more,
Other little children
Shall bring my boats ashore.

Hi Robyn. When I was about 9 I was sick at home for over a month and I spent hours propped up in bed reading those poems to my stuffed animals. 🙂
