I took a series of shots at the marsh just as the sun was going down – they had a big effect on my painting and inspired a number of attempts at capturing this scene in watercolour. I thought I’d try some of them out in black and white …
The Cooper Marsh Conservation Area is on the shores of the St. Lawrence River near Cornwall – apparently one of the most significant wetlands in all of Ontario. A series of board walks lead you through treed swamps and ponds with a variety of birds and wildlife, complete with viewing towers and camera blinds. I haven’t tried birding … perhaps I should as there are at times more than a 100 species passing through.
There must be so much wildlife in that marsh. Beautiful B&W pics, Lynne. 🙂

Yes, I need to go down there and spend some more time. A lot of the birds will have moved on by now of course but might glimpse some beaver or otters or other water animals.

Some of the shots are quite nice in colour too with the sun setting. Thank you, Seonaid.

And I’d bet you would come up with some extraordinary prose to go with these 😉
