Black and White: Cooper Marsh

I took a series of shots at the marsh just as the sun was going down – they had a big effect on my painting and inspired a number of attempts at capturing this scene in watercolour.  I thought I’d try some of them out in black and white …

The Cooper Marsh Conservation Area is on the shores of the St. Lawrence River near Cornwall – apparently one of the most significant wetlands in all of Ontario.  A series of board walks lead you through treed swamps and ponds with a variety of birds and wildlife, complete with viewing towers and camera blinds.  I haven’t tried birding … perhaps I should as there are at times more than a 100 species passing through.
