Admiralteyskaya subway station in St Petersburg, Russia
St Petersburg’s subway system is the deepest in the world
and Admiralteyskaya is the deepest station – this escalator is the beginning of the descent to 282 feet.

I love this post. I was there several years ago and remember this station and how long the escalator is. It goes on forever. Your photo of it is perfect.

If I knew at the time how far I was descending I might have had some heebie jeebies. 😉

My daughter lived in St. Petersburg and she said that people would read and neck and work crossword puzzles and all kinds of things to kill time while on the escalators. The subway system is really remarkable. When I thought about traveling under the rivers it made me nervous. 🙂
